I found my well-enforced personality defenses unexpectedly disappearing and I turned into a stuttering child, suddenly unsure of herself. New Live Class : Gayatri Sahasranam

Swamiji is offering a series of classes on Gayatri Sahasranam beginning June 24. The classes will be conducted at the Mandir at 6:30 PM PST, Monday through Friday, after the evening vespers (Arati). You can view this class via our webcam at http://www.shreemaa.org/broadcasts

The Gayatri Sahasranam text that will be used in the class can be found at our online bookstore.

The Sixteen Initiations

There are sixteen initiations which a sadhu can take. They are:

  1. Guru Mantra
  2. Japa Mala
  3. Loin Cloth
  4. Yantra
  5. Puja Paddhoti (system of worship)
  6. Yajna Paddhoti (system of fire worship)
  7. Shastra (particular scripture)
  8. Sampradaya (particular tribe of sadhus)
  9. Asana (particular posture for sitting)
  10. Kavacha (amulet and/or series of mantras to protect your inner vibration)
  11. Swami (initiation as a teacher)
  12. Danda or Chempta (a staff or fire tongs) a symbol of dedication to dharma or fire ceremonies
  13. Sant (a teacher of teachers)
  14. Mahanta (the head of an ashram)
  15. Mandaleshwar (the head of a series of ashrams)
  16. Sannyas (who is established in truth and free to roam and teach any where. Traditionally his being is his teaching.)

It describes the mudras and indicates the locations for the various mantras of the Matrika Nyasas, Kara-anganyasas, Akshar Nyasa, Navarna Mantra Nyasa, Anga Puja, and many others. Shree Maa's Prayer for World Peace, 2009

Shree Maa has asked devotees to pray for World Peace by chanting at least 5 malas of the Sarva Badha mantra immediately followed by "Durge Durge Rakshaani Hum Phat Svaha", daily. One mala equals 108 repetitions. The Sarva Badha mantra is from verse 39 of Chapter 11 of the Chandi Path.
