Sri Ramakrishna on how to find God

Devotee: How do you get to meet the owner of the company?

Ramakrishna: If you just say God is "that" and just go sit down and do nothing, then you're not going to get there. You have to go with great vigor and great effort. Go to a quiet place and pray to Him, saying with great sincerity and longing in your heart, "Reveal yourself to me."

You run after your attachments and desires with great fervour, but for once be a little bit crazy for God. Some people may say that such-and-such a person has become crazy for God. Good! Let them. Leave all things and just call on God.

Sharanagata Mantra: September 1-15

On the qualities of a Supreme Devotee from the Devi Gita

Always listening to My qualities, singing My names, the repository of the jewels of the qualities of welfare, contemplating the infinite, he resides in Me. His consciousness remains fixed only, just as oil always gives moisture.

He maintains no other motive there, nor is there any other desire (not even the desire for the different stages of samadhi: samipya, sarshti, sayujya, salokya).

He considers my seva as most important, and knows of nothing else. He maintains the attitude there that I am the servant of the served, and has no desire even for liberation.
With the greatest love He thinks only of me, knowing himself to be indivisible from Me eternally and never separate.
