Shree Maa, Swamiji, and a group of sevaks arrived early on the appointed day (June 15, 2025) at the host’s (Prasad) house in Oakland and immediately set up and decorated an altar in the large, well-appointed basement. Under Maa’s supervision, the altar area was festooned with fabrics and flowers, adding color and character to the festive environment. Maa installed several deities, chief among which were pictures of Shiva, Ramakrishna, and a Hanuman murti that Prasad worshiped every day . To these, Prasad added a beautiful photo of Maa and Swamiji as well.
Nanda, who was the designated pujari for the day, set up a chair draped in cloth that would serve as the asan for Swamiji along with a receptacle on the floor where she would perform the pada puja. She positioned herself and the offerings nearby.
Soon, it was 11 am, and time to start the worship. A short video compilation capturing the essence of the puja is available here :
Beloved Shree Maa sweetly offered the vastra, garlands, kumkum, chandan, and akshata to Swamiji while Nanda performed the pada puja. All those present offered flower petals to Swamiji while chanting the 108 names of Shiva. This was followed by arati and a kirtan session with Maa, Mitra, and family. Then Kailash delighted the company with a few songs , followed by two mother-daughter duos dancing to Ganesh songs.
After darshan where Swamiji placed tilak and presented each person with a Rudraksh mala, everyone proceeded to the dining area for a sumptuous feast provided by the host. It was a beautiful feeling to catch up with friends and satsangis, some after months and even years. As it says in the Chandi, “Those who take refuge in You, O Goddess, become a refuge to others”. Wherever and whenever Maa and Swamiji are present, that place becomes a refuge to all. And thus ended Father’s Day celebrations at Oakland.
