For the spiritual aspirant, the Guru is a shining light, the great guide on the spiritual path. It is through love and devotion to the Guru that the disciple reaches and cultivates a relationship with the divine.
This poem, written by Chandana Saraswati, is a wonderful example of such love. The last two lines of the poem, “Na guroradhikam … Sivasasanatah,” are actually verses from the Guru Gita: “There is nothing more than the Guru … This is the instruction of Shiva!”
May we all be blessed to keep the Guru in our minds, their mantras on our lips, and their love in our hearts!
🌸 In the Light of the Guru 🌸
In the garden of silence where seekers roam,
Shines the Guru — a beacon, a home.
A lamp in the night, a star on the sea,
A guide who unlocks what the soul longs to see.
Through love’s gentle current, through devotion’s sweet song,
The disciple is carried, both steady and strong.
Each mantra a whisper of wisdom divine,
Each glance of the Guru, a radiant sign.
No treasure is greater, no shelter more true,
Than the feet of the Master, the path they imbue.
No temple more sacred, no scripture more high —
Than the Guru who teaches both earth and sky.
“Na guroradhikam,” let this truth be our prayer,
“There is nothing beyond Guru,” in Shiva’s own care.
O blessed we are, in their grace may we dwell,
With their name on our lips, and their love in our shell.
May the heart be a vessel, the mind be a flame,
May we honor the Guru with every breath, every name.
Forever may we walk where their footprints have trod,
Our Guru, our refuge — our gateway to God.
