Keshab Sen went to Ramakrishna and he said, “Thakur, Why don’t you build hospitals and schools, and be a benefactor to society?” And Ramakrishna got mad and He said, “Oh, Hospitals and schools! You’ll always have sick and you’ll always have ignorant. That’s not going to change the course of humanity. Let me realize God. I’m not going to call on Kali and say, “Kali come to me”, and when the Divine Mother comes say, “build me a school.” I’d say, “Mother give me liberation, give me self-realization, let me be blessed with your presence all my life.”

So, yes, the highest benefit that you could perform in society is to realize God. And demonstrate that realization, and demonstrate the Love of the Guru in your every activity.
