The Ganges River is the embodiment of sacredness to Hindus, who worship the river on a daily basis. This sacred river runs through Bangladesh and India but, no matter where you visit along the banks, you can’t help but notice the reverence of the people as they offer flowers, rose petals, and lights in clay dishes every morning.
Obtaining darshan of the Ganges River sparks our deepest sentiments and spiritual bhava. Read below as our devotee, Kantananda, expresses this bhava as an offering to Goddess Ganga.
Gangotri
I make room for my body in time
Admit the ground wide sky the river friend
The open sound of spirit moves my color wheel across the moraine meadow
Above the bright blue wall and glacial gray is alive
I hear the high clear call of currents and then whole commands
The instruments of water wind and light freeze and thaw those little soils in cracks and holes
Make way for red god and burnt brown green
My eyes pan the bowl the ridge line down the slides to the bottom
Where cold chalk water runs with clouds like me
