Below is a list of the abhisheka (ablution) and prasad offerings that are made to the the Shiva lingam for each of the four pujas on Maha Shivaratri:
1. In the first puja, we bathe Shiva in milk. The prasad offered is: Panchanna (a kitchuri made with rice and black pepper), labra (5 vegetables cooked together), arghya, tambul, japa, and dhenumudra.
2. In the second puja, we bathe Shiva in yogurt, and the prasad is pudding.
3. In the third puja, we bathe Shiva in ghee, and the prasad is chandan (sandlewood paste), barley, ladoo, pitta, green saag, camphor, and pomegranate or pomegranate Juice.
4. In the fourth puja, we bathe Shiva in honey and the prasad offered consists of chandan (sandlewood paste), black urad dahl, green moong, priangu (aglaia roxburghiana ), sweet juice, and banana.
