You all know the story of the Gurukul at Dronacharya’s ashram. Dronacharya was teaching all the disciples how to shoot the weapon, the bow and arrow. And he called his son Ashwathama, and he said, “Ashwathama, see there is a bird in the tree. What do you see?” And Ashwathama said, “I see the tree, I see the bird, and I see your feet.” And Guru said, “That’s very good, put your bow down.”
And he called Duryodhan. And Duryodhan lifted up his bow, and Dronacharya said, “What do you see?” And Duryodhan replied, “Guruji, I see the bird sitting in the tree, can I shoot him down?” “No, no, put your weapon down.”
And then he called Arjuna. And he said, “Arjuna, there’s a bird in the tree, take aim, what do you see?” Arjuna said, “I see the eye of the bird.” And Guruji said, “What else do you see?” And Arjuna said, “That’s all.”
When you do puja, take aim. And all you see is your target. Have that sense of concentration that excludes, there is no backside, don’t worry about it. You’re not disrespecting Her by turning your back. You’re respecting Her by giving Her your full concentration, your full attention. That’s devotion.
