In this age of darkness, fear of death has taken over the minds of us all.
Ramakrishna and one of his disciples are engaged in a deep conversation regarding death. Ramakrishna says, “Look, God is the ocean of nectar. Don’t you have the desire to dive in and swim in the ocean of eternal bliss? Think that your mind is a fly, and it comes upon a whole container of honey. Where will you sit to drink the honey? His disciple Narendra replies, “I will sit on the edge and reach down and sip the honey.” Ramakrishna says, “Why, why will you sit on the edge?” Narendra said, “If I fall in, I will sink, and I will lose my life.” Ramakrishna explains, “No, that is not how it is. This is the ocean of the bliss of immortality, true existence, consciousness, and bliss. You have nothing to fear. If you submerge yourself in this ocean, you need never fear death. It is eternal life. You will not be lost by becoming Mad for GOD!”
It is Ramakrishna’s hope that we can fall madly in love with God, eradicate the fear of what we think death is, and merge ourselves in the limitless bliss of immortality.
