This is a continuation of a Translation of Commentary on Astrology Scriptures by Shree Maa and Swamiji from the original Bengali.
In this modern age, Astrology is often applied with ignorance of the scriptures and with lack of knowledge.
This promotes superstitions, which, unfortunately, many people are content to accept without further investigation and study.
Though many of today’s scholars study the Astrology scriptures and gain much knowledge, they are incapable of looking deeply with a still mind to intuit the lines on the hands and knowledge of the planetary influences.
For these reasons, they cannot illuminate the fullest knowledge.
But, in our ancient Astrology Scriptures, our wise commentators searched for the intrinsic meanings and philosophical interpretations.
As a result, they discovered the highest spiritual applications of this sublime science.
Samudrik Vidya, is a school of Astrology with applications to many different sources of readings, such as charts, palmistry, and numerology.
Samudrik Vidya, combined with knowledge of the planetary influences, were discussed at length by the Masters of our ancient schools of Philosophy. But, to understand the fullness of these explanations is extremely difficult.
By reading the lines on the hands of aspirants, according to the ancient systems of knowledge, it is possible to understand the intrinsic nature of an individual, their goals, and their temperament.
From the ancient Varaha Mihir scriptures, we understand that there were originally three Astrology scriptures, or books, known as Kagal, Bhugal, and Patal.
The Guru of the Mihir Scriptures was a great wise man, named Acharya Puranjaya Pandit, who had possession of all three of the Astrology books. Here is a story about how one of the scriptures, the Patal, was lost:
Vanik asked Khana and Mihir (two very accomplished astrologers from Bengal), “What color will the new born calf be when it comes from its mother’s womb?”
Mihir answered that the calf would be of a white color.
Vanik became anxious to verify the truth of Mihir’s prediction.
When the cow gave birth to the calf, the calf was of a dark color.
When Mihir saw this, he was extremely pained, and thought that Vanik would lose faith in the Astrology scriptures.
As a result, Mihir returned to Acharya Puranjaya Pandit, and started to throw his Astrology books into the river!
He first destroyed the Patal Scripture. Then Khana stopped him, declaring that he was destroying the Astrology scriptures!
Mihir replied that these books are not true. He could not correctly predict the color of the new-born calf.
Then Khana answered that his prediction had been correct. They both returned to the newly born calf to find that its color had changed, and now it was completely white.
Then Mihir’s complete faith in the Astrology scriptures was solidified beyond a doubt.
Thus, of the three books of the Astrology scriptures, the Patal Scripture was lost.
In the study of the Astrology scriptures, it is first imperative to understand what we mean when we talk about the Astrology scriptures.
We must first understand the definition of the name of the scripture we read from and the composition of its subject matter.
With the help from the scriptures, one is able to understand the lines on the hands and the positions of the planets, and how they affect the past, present, and future. This is called the fruits of studying the Astrology scriptures.
These Astrology scriptures have such infinitely deep wisdom that, whoever has fully disciplined conscious awareness, can understand the deepest meanings of the principles in his heart. Such beings will continually experience infinite delights.
Those who have faith in the scriptures and who perform strict spiritual disciplines, can be privileged to have authority over this wisdom.
